Como man Gautam Gautam knows well the heartbreak of having a livelihood destroyed by fire – he lost his business in a suspected arson attack in October last year.
Mr Gautam took over the Busy Bee Deli in Como just 17 months before a suspicious fire, which started at a neighbouring store and tore through his business causing $200,000 worth of damage.
He had replaced flooring, signage, re-painted the walls and spent thousands of dollars on stocking the shelves for it to all go up in flames.
While Mr Gautam is in the process of re-building his business, he has $10,000 worth of stock that he is hoping to put to good use by transforming it into much-needed dollars for victims of the Waroona-Yarloop bushfires.
He hopes to sell more than 8000 cans and bottles of soft drinks, energy drinks and juices for a gold coin donation so he can donate the money to the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund.
“It was so devastating for me to see my own hard work go under flames,” Mr Gautam said.
“I’ve gone through tough times, and when you go through those tough times, you can feel others’ pain.”
Mr Guatam is still confirming a time and date for his fundraising.
